Published on May 01, 2024The 2024 mosquito season has officially begun. With the active mosquito season at its start, residents can take a few simple actions to protect themselves, as well as their neighbors.

"Prevention is key when it comes to controlling mosquitoes that carry and spread viruses."

Adult mosquitoes live outdoors, but can also live indoors, biting throughout the day and into the evening hours. Even a few infected mosquitoes can produce large outbreaks in the community.

"Protect yourself, your family, your community with these simple, preventative steps."

Mosquito surveillance is a significant prevention tool used by the City of Fort Worth and its partners, DFW Environmental Health Services LLC and Tarrant County Public Health. Each season, in conjunction with its partners, the City of Fort Worth monitors mosquito activity through trapping, identification and testing for various mosquito-transmitted diseases such as West Nile virus.

"Over 50 sites have been set up throughout the community. Surveillance and testing activities start in May and occur weekly through the end of October."
